My shoe display

If you remember my wardrobe post, you may have spotted that I store the majority of my flats and ankle boots on the bottom of the clothes rail in our bedroom.  When it came to storing my 'going out' shoes, I was at a loss.  Wedges are rather bulky, you see, and heels have a tendancy to fall through the gaps on my clothes rail shelf and just look messy.  I'm sad to say that in the past, my more dressy shoes have just been unceremoniously dumped in my boudoir.

But not anymore!  Enter, the Ikea Ribba.  I originally wanted the longer versions, but they only had two white ones left which were damaged, so I opted for the 55cm ones instead.  They were only £5.50 each, so all in all this display cost me around £20 after the nightmare I had fitting them to the wall.  (Note, the 3M Picture Hanging Strips claiming to hold up to 7.4kg in weight do not.  The whole thing fell off my wall with just one small shoe on and pulled the paint off.)

I'm a firm believer that certain shoes are artwork, and while I wouldn't go as far as to say any of my pairs are masterpieces, they sure are easy on the eye.  This way I don't feel so guilty about not getting enough wear out of them, because I can look at them instead!

How do you store your shoes?

  1. Is this for-real? That does not look like a normal persons room. It's so beautiful! Great idea to display your shoes, I could never do that. No one wants to see my lengthy collection of Toms and Chuck's on the regular. : )

  6. Wonderful idea! At the moment my shoes are just placed at the top of the wardrobe or on the floor. I would love a cabinate with glass doors to display really nice ones. I also think if I put them out for people to see I might take care of them more as well. A girl can dream :-) xx

  7. I LOVE this idea, I have a slight - well, okay, major shoe fetish. This became so big that I had to install an entire double Ikea wardrobe (with glass shelves and uplighting. Yes, it is beautiful) to store my collection/hoard of shoes.

  8. This looks fab! If you have pretty shoes, why hide them away in a wardrobe but make a feature of them instead. :D

    1. At least they're safe in boxes! I'd love to do a big open wardrobe for my clothes, but I know the cats would swing from them :( x

  11. Good old Ikea!
I would just use this as an excuse to buy more pretty shoes, and convince myself that my current shoes aren't worthy for a wall display!
I really do love this though, I've never seen anything like it before

  12. Oh this is so cool! I always end up with my shoes just shoved at the bottom of my wardrobe/under my bed/in random corners of my room - you've inspired me to do something a bit more with them!

    1. I was guilty of the same, but this helps motivate me to take a bit more pride in them! Plus being stored this way hopefully means that they won't get all squashed and covered in cat fur x

  13. So jel! I really want to display my shoes soon, I love yours they look really cool. It's bad that the shelf didn't hold up, I'm scared as I wouldn't want it coming off the wall and hurting one of my little boys. I think when I have some real money, I'm going to sort out all my storage, for now I just have to put up with crap everywhere :( haha x
